Educational Requirements

If you are serious about becoming a Respiratory Therapist then you need to be prepared for the schooling that you are going to need. Respiratory Therapists need to at least have their Associate’s Degree. This will take you about two years to complete. If it is your plan to climb to the top then you might want to strongly consider pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or a Master’s Degree. The important thing to remember is that you can work with your Associate’s while you are pursuing your higher degree.

While you are in school you will have to take a number of science classes including:
Human Anatomy Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Physics Disease Prevention
Microbiology Respiratory Health Promotion
Pharmacology Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Mathematics Therapeutic and Diagnostic Procedures

The salary for a Respiratory Therapist varies depending on your level of education and where you are hired. The average salary for a Respiratory Therapist in the state of Minnesota is approximately $47,000. This salary would be for your typical 30-40 hour work week. If you pursue a higher degree your salary will increase.
