California Respiratory Therapy Schools

Choosing a career is not necessarily easy. If you are looking for a career with room for advancement then you should consider going into the field of Respiratory Therapy. The Labor Department Statistics show that going forward to the year 2016 there will be a 19% growth jump in the amount of Respiratory Therapists needed in all hospitals. What that amounts to is simple; there will be great demand for licensed and trained respiratory therapists. Respiratory Therapists need to be very dedicated, passionate, detail oriented and compassionate individuals who are dedicated to the health and care of their patients.

Education

Respiratory Therapists need to hold at least an Associate’s Degree. Respiratory Therapists that graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree are much more likely to advance in their careers. While you are in school studying to be a Respiratory Therapist you will study a great deal of science classes as well as classes specific to your area of study. Some of the classes that you will study include:

Anatomy Chemistry Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
Physics Pharmacology Diagnostics and Test Procedures
Biology Respiratory Health Promotion
Mathematics Disease Prevention

These classes are extremely important in the training and certification of Respiratory Therapists. Therapists should be computer literate. Many of the machines and equipment that are used in hospitals today are computerized. Though you will undergo training for all of the equipment it makes things much easier if you enjoy working with computers.

Salary

The average salary for a Respiratory Therapist working in a hospital setting is approximately $47,000. Respiratory Therapists usually work 30-40 hour work weeks. It is important to remember that this is the mean salary. The more education you have the more chances you have for job advancement and salary growth.
